Detour Yoga By Bike

Join Detour for a social bike ride and yoga practice in East Lothian, on the 4th May! Our events aim to bring people together to be active, minfdul, and connected to the outdoors.

We will meet by PATH (Portobello Active Travel Hub, on Porty Promenade, end of Pipe Lane) at 9am. We’ll ride around 15 miles to Longniddry, with plenty of stops to chat, hydrate and enjoy the scenery. The route is mostly made up of cycleways, gavel/forest paths and quiet roads, suitable for most bikes.

Around 11am we will arrive at Fern Bothy, where snacks and hot drinks will be provided. Jorja will then lead a 1 hour Vinyasa Yoga class, suitable for all levels. Class will begin with grounding, breathwork and gentle mobilisation, before building into more dynamic flows. The practice will gradually wind down through calming postures and savasana.

You are welcome to jump on a train home from Longniddry, or ride back to Edinburgh together! (Please arrange your own train ticket and bike booking if you are taking this option.)

Qi Gong for (Peri)Menopause with Suzi from Burning Brightly

Suzi is a Certified Advanced Holden Qi Gong teacher. She is also a registered meditation teacher with the British School of Meditation, and a graduate of davidji’s meditation teacher training academy.

Suzi is passionate about sharing her lived and academic experience to help others. Suzi worked in the financial services industry before re-training in public health where she devised behaviour change campaigns. Now she brings together a wealth of experience to her qi gong and meditation classes to keep these ancient practices highly relevant for modern life.

Qi Gong = Breath + Movement + Mindful Awareness

Qi (pronounced “Chi”) is energy, your own energy, your vital life force. Gong means work or skill. Qi Gong is becoming skilful at managing your own energy, to improve your overall health and wellbeing. Qi Gong is Meditation in Motion. (Tai Chi is a small sub-set of qi gong.)

Qi Gong can help you feel better during (Peri)Menopause

Hormones are essential for every cell in our body to function properly. As a woman ages and her sex hormone levels decrease (perimenopause and then menopause) her yin energy drops. If yin energy lowers, yang energy has to increase. Yang energy is heat, active, doing, agitation which in turn leads to disturbed sleep, hot flushes, distraction, frustration; just some of the many (peri)menopause symptoms.

Stress is an ever-present feature in our lives. Stress exerts an incredible influence on (peri)menopausal symptoms. The ‘rushing woman’ embodies a lot of stress in her day-to-day life and in so doing exacerbates all of the symptoms she experiences. Our body can only generate one hormone at a time. If cortisol is being generated oestrogen, for example, cannot also be generated. In addition, high levels of cortisol is partly responsible for weight gain around the tummy. The first step to balancing hormones, at any age, and feeling better is tackling stress (cortisol) levels. Qi Gong is wonderful at lowering stress levels and increasing energy, bringing the body into balance. When the body is in balance you feel better.

Qi Gong is a low-impact form of exercise which turns your stress into vitality for a happier and healthier life.

Reiki x Herbalism with The Honeybee Sanctuary

A talk, a workshop, a retreat.

I would like to invite you to join me in the bright and beautiful upstairs workshop space at Fern Bothy, Longniddry Steading, for a morning of reflections, sharing and experience of Reiki x Herbalism.

This is my practice. This is my story.

I will share my journey weaving together these practices for self-healing, and show you how I bring the two together.

I am so excited to offer this unique talk, workshop and time for retreat. We will share in the grounding, relaxing, connecting, calming, restorative and nurturing benefits which Reiki and Herbalism offer.

  • Welcome, and taste a bespoke blended seasonal tea for the Heart, a pause to settle in to this space and time for yourself,

  • I will share the story of my practices, and what they mean to me for natural wellbeing in day-to-day life,

  • Set a Summer-time healing intention, inspired by a ‘conversation’ with a seasonal herb plant,

  • Share in a Reiki meditation,

  • Techniques from Usui Reiki Rhoyo for sharing energy in the room and beyond,

  • Make two herbal remedies together which are specifically supporting to the central nervous system, and which I use in practice to benefit my own meditation and Reiki self-healing practices,

  • Take home two Reiki x Remedies to take forward in your own reflections on wellbeing for the Summer season.

You can expect a warm welcome and a friendly inclusive group. This retreat morning is suitable for all - you don't need to have any background in Reiki, or Herbalism!

This event will be limited to 10 participants
